Custom Furniture

Mostly live-edge tables, conference tops, dining sets, and epoxy river

pieces, with the occasional credenza, desk, or built-in when the project

calls for it. Every piece starts with wood dried here, on this site, in

the vacuum kiln — which means the table isn't going to move on you after

delivery.

The process: a conversation about what you're picturing, a walk through

the slab inventory to pick the actual wood, a sketch or 3D render if the

design needs one, then 8 to 12 weeks from approval to delivery depending

on the build and the season. Rush work is possible but rare, because the

finishing is where the piece either holds up for generations or starts

failing at year three. Every grit you skip in sanding is a reason the

finish won't lay right. The finishing step is the one that's never rushed.

Pricing depends on the piece. A small set of floating shelves might land

around a few hundred dollars. A full epoxy river dining table typically

starts around $3,500 and goes up from there. A number gets quoted after

the design conversation, not before — partly because every slab is

different, and partly because the honest number depends on what's actually

getting built.

FAQs

Q: What makes your custom furniture different from store-bought pieces?

A: Remember that dining room set your neighbor got that looks exactly like the one in the catalog? We can definitely do that, but the real value in working with us comes from designing and realizing custom pieces that fit your vision and your space. Each RAW Heartwood piece is like a fingerprint - uniquely yours. From hand-selecting the wood, integrating traditional joinery techniques, even merging the organic combination of wood grain and live-edge with industrial or artistic metal bases, the designs we create together will have catalog lovers weeping with envy. Plus, our furniture is built to be inherited by your great-grandkids, not replaced next season.

Q: How does the custom furniture process work?

A: We strive to ensure that you walk away with the perfect piece(s) of heirloom quality furniture. First, we’ll get to know your vision (feel free to bring your Pinterest boards!) and how it fits into your home or office. Then we select the perfect wood species (this is where our lumber expertise shines), create detailed designs, and craft your piece(s) with meticulous attention to detail. We can also provide you with visual updates throughout the process so that you can show your friends and loved ones the journey your furniture took from slab to masterpiece.

Q: How much does a piece of custom furniture cost?

A: Since every project is unique, it’s difficult to say without first discussing your needs. The size of your project, the wood species selected, and any epoxy or additional hardware all factor into the final cost. A small set of live-edged shelves may be as little as a couple of hundred dollars while custom epoxy dining tables typically start at a few thousand dollars, depending on the space you want to fill. However, unlike an impulse-buy sofa that's already sagging, our pieces hold their value and may actually increase in value over time.

Q: How long does it take to create a custom piece?

A: Quality custom furniture does take time as nothing we do or sell comes off of a conveyor belt. Most projects take 8-12 weeks from design to delivery but that range may vary depending on the season. During this time, we're selecting materials, letting the wood acclimate, surfacing and cutting the wood to exact dimensions, and applying finishes and final details that'll make your piece look amazing and last for generations. Rush jobs are almost always possible but we try to avoid cutting corners so that your investment stands the test of time.

Q: Can you match existing furniture or specific styles?

A: Absolutely! Whether you're trying to match grandma's antique sideboard or create a modern piece that would make Mid-Century designers proud, we've got you covered. We can work with your inspiration pieces, photos, or even that sketch you drew on a napkin during lunch.

Q: What about maintenance and care for custom pieces?

A: Like a good cast iron pan - treat it right, and our furniture can last for generations. Each piece comes with specific instructions, but generally, basic care is all you’ll need: avoid extreme temperatures, use coasters whenever possible, and wrap furniture carefully when moving it between locations. We do offer touch-up and refinishing services for those times when something unexpected does happen.
